From a single depot in Rochdale in the 1950s to 170 depots worldwide today, European Metal Recycling - EMR has managed to maintain a 'family' business ethos in its operations, whilst promoting modern working practices throughout the business and continuing to invest in the infrastructure, equipment and scaffolding facilities the business needs for its day-to-day operations.
Following the first warehouse in Rochdale, which still exists today, the Group established a facility in St Helens in 1979. The Group continues to expand and establishes its first export operation at the Port of Liverpool.
The company has also grown through acquisitions, but remains owned by the Sheppard family, who changed its name from Sheppard Group to European Metal Recycling following its merger with Mayer Parry, recognising its ambition to be a European company.
