Emirates Steel Arkan, the UAE’s largest local steel producer, has entered into a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China-based Delong Steel Group. The purpose of this collaboration is to decarbonize steel production by building and operating a low-carbon raw materials production facility.
Within the scope of the MoU, the two companies will work together to create a factory that produces raw materials with minimal carbon emissions. This initiative aligns with Emirates Steel Arkan’s decarbonization strategy and supports the environmental agenda of the United Arab Emirates. The project aims to contribute significantly to the steel industry’s sustainability efforts.
Saeed Al Rumaithi, CEO of Emirates Steel Arkan, emphasized the importance of this partnership in driving positive change. He stated, “Our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility drives us to explore innovative solutions. By collaborating with Delong Steel Group, we aim to lead the way in low-carbon steel production.
This collaborative endeavor represents a milestone in Emirates Steel Arkan's sustainability journey, building upon previous initiatives aimed at pioneering eco-friendly practices in the region. Notably, the MoU complements Emirates Steel Arkan's ambitious plans to develop the Middle East and North Africa region's inaugural green hydrogen project in collaboration with Masdar.
Moreover, this strategic partnership aligns harmoniously with the UAE's overarching vision of achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2050, reinforcing the nation's steadfast commitment to a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
