Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest premium aluminium producer in the UAE, has become the first aluminium producer and Middle East company to join the Sea Cargo Charter. The Sea Cargo Charter aims to reduce global shipping emissions to net zero by around 2050, in line with the International Maritime Organization's goals. EGA ships 22 million tonnes of aluminium, bauxite, and raw materials annually, with global shipping accounting for a significant proportion of emissions. EGA's commitment to reaching net zero by 2050 includes shipping raw materials and bauxite to customers worldwide. In 2022, EGA signed an agreement with shipping partner "K" Line to develop marine decarbonisation technologies for its bulk cargo shipping routes.
