Elmarakbysteel achieved a significant in 2023 by reducing carbon emissions to 0.62 tons of CO₂ per ton of liquid steel, a 3% decrease from the 0.64 tons of CO₂ recorded in 2022. This achievement positions Elmarakbysteel as the lowest emitter in Egypt and Africa and among the lowest in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). According to the World Steel Association (WSA), the traditional BF-BOF production route emits 2.32 tons of CO₂ per ton of steel, while the DRI-EAF method accounts for 1.43 tons of CO₂, and the recycled scrap EAF method emits 0.70 tons of CO₂. Elmarakbysteel, utilizing the recycled scrap EAF method, has outperformed global benchmarks with an impressive 0.62 tons of CO₂, reducing its environmental footprint significantly.
