Egypt's iron ore imports increased by 1.9% in 2024, from USD 1.627 billion to USD 1.658 billion. Iron ore and concentrates accounted for 1.7% of the country's total imports, with the majority of these imports coming from Brazil, Oman, Bahrain, Sweden and Canada, with these five countries accounting for 95.6% of Egypt's total iron ore and concentrates imports.
Brazil and Canada were the biggest contributors to Egypt's iron ore imports. Imports from Brazil increased by 24.7% to USD 749.5 million, while imports from Canada increased by 46% to USD 84.2 million. Imports from Ukraine showed the biggest increase of the period. Imports from Ukraine increased by 805.5% from just $6.4 million in 2023 to $51.7 million in 2024.
In contrast, imports from Oman and Bahrain decreased. Imports from Oman decreased by 37.7% to USD 356.2 million, while imports from Bahrain decreased by 2% to USD 208.6 million.
Imports from Sweden increased slightly by 0.9% to USD 185.5 million.
