According to a published report, there is a dumping incident in galvanized steel products imported from China to Vietnam. According to the report, domestic galvanized steel producers were under significant price pressure as the rate of decline in import prices from China occurred faster than domestic sales prices. Compared to the same period last year, galvanized steel prices imported from China decreased by 28%, while domestic sales prices decreased by only 17%. This situation affected the margins of domestic producers by more than 2%.
According to the report, the production growth rate of imports from China for the products examined increased at a much higher level than the growth rate of domestic production. In the same period of 2023, imports from China increased by 519%, while domestic production increased by 33%. This situation highlights the increasing competitiveness of imported products faced by domestic galvanized steel producers.
According to the analysis, it is stated that the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade should impose anti-dumping duty in order to reduce the effects of this situation. In similar cases, it is estimated that the implementation process of such tax measures in the past could take 6-8 months and could be officially implemented in the third quarter of 2025.
On the other hand, other developments in the sector were also discussed in the report. It was stated that domestic galvanized steel consumption increased by 56% in May compared to the same period of the previous year, and export production increased by 12%. However, it was emphasized that the sector may slow down in the coming period and its effects on prices should be evaluated.
As a result, it is believed that the implementation of anti-dumping duty for domestic galvanized steel producers can restore balance in the industry, and especially large enterprises such as Hoa Phat, Hoa Sen and Nam Kim can make a strong recovery by taking advantage of these measures.
