In June 2024, the U.S. reported a decline in scrap metal exports, with volumes totaling 1,328,657 tonnes. This represents a decrease of 13.1% compared to May, while there was a slight increase of 0.68% compared to June of the previous year, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission.
The primary recipient of U.S. scrap metal during this period was Türkiye, receiving 357,699 tonnes, marking a m/m decrease of 7.3% and a y/y decline of 25.9%. Other significant importers included Bangladesh with 243,464 tonnes, India with 150,061 tonnes, Mexico with 144,782 tonnes, and Taiwan with 87,418 tonnes.
In terms of value, the exports for June 2024 were quantified at USD 576.77 million, which is a decrease from USD 641.8 million in May and down from USD 589.29 million in the same month the previous year.
