Turkey was rocked by two major earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaras on Monday (February 6th). The first earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred at 04:17 in the Pazardzhik district. This earthquake was followed by another tremor at 13.24. The magnitude of the earthquake, whose epicenter was Elbistan district, was recorded as 7.6.
Earthquake; It caused great destruction in Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis and Malatya.
Death toll exceeds 40 thousand
AFAD President Sezer reported that 40 thousand 642 people lost their lives in the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş.
Stating that the evacuation processes from the cities where the earthquake caused destruction continued, Sezer said, "Over 430 thousand evacuations were made by us. We host 313 thousand 723 people in public guesthouses and hotels."
Sezer also stated that damage assessment studies are continuing. Sezer said, "At the moment, a damage assessment study of over 50 percent has been carried out. In a short time, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization teams will complete it."
