India has attracted attention with its steady rise in crude steel production since 2020. The country has been increasing its crude steel production rate for the last three years, consolidating its second place. In 2021, crude steel production increased by 17.85% to 118 million tons and by 5.50% to 125 million tons in 2022. India stands out among the 15 countries with this steady increase in steel production.
In the first half of 2023, India's crude steel production increased by 8.93% to 67 million 920 thousand tons compared to the same period last year, with the potential to further increase its output by the end of the year.
Türkiye is the country with the biggest decline
Among the 15 countries producing crude steel between 2020 and 2023, Türkiye's production rate decreased the most.
In 2022, Türkiye's crude steel production decreased by 13.12% compared to 2021, from 40 million tons to 35 million tons. In the first half of 2023, it decreased by 9.31% to 15 million 920 thousand tons compared to the same period of 2022.
