SteelRadar compiled data from the South African Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI), which showed an increase in South Africa's crude steel production. According to the data; South Africa's total crude steel production in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 13.8% compared to the same period of the previous year, from 1 million 106 thousand 800 tons to 1 million 259 thousand 600 tons. South Africa's crude steel production decreased by 21.9% in March between the periods of 2018-2024.
While crude steel production was 441,800 tons in March 2023, it decreased by 2.8% to 429,600 tons in March 2024. In March 2024, there was an increase of 30,600 tons compared to February.
During the January-March period, compared to the same period of 2023, crude steel production increased by 13.8% from 1 million 106 thousand 800 tons to 1 million 259 thousand 600 tons.
Comparing the first quarter of 2024 with the same period before the pandemic, a significant decrease in production volumes was recorded.
