Compulsory Catastrophe Insurance is expected to be introduced in early 2024

Compulsory Catastrophe Insurance is expected to be introduced in early 2024

Yücel stated that after the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, there was a need for a new regulation and that the relevant institutions were working on the Compulsory Disaster Insurance regulation.

Pointing out that the compulsory earthquake insurance covers only earthquake coverage, Yücel said that with the new regulation, the scope of the insurance will be expanded and its name will be changed to Compulsory Disaster Insurance, and that it will cover both earthquakes and other disasters such as floods.

Pointing out that TCIP policies do not include property coverage, and that the price is given only according to the square meter of the dwelling, Yücel stated that condominium owners and tenants can have their belongings insured within the scope of ZAS if they wish.

No need for addendum

Yücel said that one of the most important changes is the indexation of earthquake insurances to inflation, and with the amendment to be made, there will be no need for an addendum.

Stating that they expect the new regulations to be put into practice at the beginning of 2024, Yücel said, "It is important for citizens to have natural disaster insurance according to the correct prices, guarantees and information."
