According to data shared by the Indian Ministry of Coal, the country's coking coal production increased by 9.63% annually to 4.69 million tonnes in September, compared to 4.28 million tonnes produced in the previous year.
The largest coking coal producer in September was Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL). Production amounted to approximately 3 million tons, with an annual increase of 14%. Other producers included CCL (1.21 mt) and SECL (0.02 mt).
India's total coal production, including thermal coal, increased by 16% annually in September, reaching approximately 68 million tons; Shipments increased by 15% to 70 million tons.
In the April-September period, coal production increased by 12% to 428 million tons and coal sales increased by 11% to 462 million tons.
While evaluating these significant increases, the Ministry of Coal said, "The coal sector has witnessed an unprecedented rise, with production, shipment and stock levels reaching remarkable levels."
