Cogne Acciai Speciali is resetting its carbon footprint with renewable energy

Italian steel producer Cogne Acciai Speciali (CAS) draws attention with its breakthroughs in renewable energy.

Cogne Acciai Speciali is resetting its carbon footprint with renewable energy

The company aims to meet all its energy needs from renewable sources by installing a hydroelectric power plant and a 1 MW electrolyzer at its main plant in Aosta. With this investment, CAS's commitment to minimizing its environmental impact and eliminating its carbon footprint has become clear.

Sales Manager Andy Vuillermin stated that they are proud to announce that all of their products will have zero impact in terms of Scope 2. Vuillermin noted that these projects have been in development since January, using entirely renewable energy sources. The electrolyzer to be installed will run on energy from a hydroelectric power plant and a rooftop solar power plant, producing 210 normal cubic meters of hydrogen per hour. This hydrogen will be stored and made accessible to all users.

This environmentally friendly move by CAS is funded by the European Union as part of Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan. This project will help the company achieve its sustainability goals and play an important role in the European steel industry.

Cogne Acciai Speciali's environmental awareness is not limited to energy projects. The company plans to increase its seamless tube production capacity for industries requiring high pressure and temperature by acquiring Germany-based Mannesmann Stainless Tubes GmbH. This strategic move will strengthen CAS's market position and provide a competitive advantage on a global scale.
