China produced 2.79 million tons of stainless steel in March 2023. This represents a 4% decrease from the same month last year. In comparison to February, the daily production average in March is 10.3% lower.
Due to low prices and weak demand, Chinese stainless steel production declined in March. The price of refined nickel and stainless scrap increased in comparison to February, while the cost of nickel-containing pig iron (NPI) decreased.
Production of stainless hot-rolled steel remained essentially constant from February to March at 1.806 million tonnes, while cold-rolled steel output decreased 5.4% to 1.127 million tonnes.
