China's steel slag production increased

According to the statement made by the China Steel Association (CISA), the steel slag production of Chinese steel producers in 2023 increased by 0.4% compared to the previous year, reaching 88.2 million tons.

Blast furnace slag production increased by 2.5% to 234.05 million tons. The usage rate of steel production slag was 98.85%, and the usage rate of blast furnace slag was 99.39%.

Sulfur dioxide emissions per ton of steel increased by 6.5% annually to 0.21 kg/t. Smoke and dust emissions increased by 8.2% to 0.25 kg/t, and nitrogen oxide emissions decreased by 10.2% to 0.42 kg/t. Sulfur dioxide and particulate matter emissions decreased by 9.1% and 8.8%, respectively.

Additionally, gas production related to steel production was also evaluated. Blast furnace gas production increased by 0.1% to 961.51 billion cubic meters, BOF gas production increased by 7.7% to 87.25 billion cubic meters and coke oven gas production reached 57.63 billion cubic meters. Increases in gas usage rates attracted attention; The blast furnace gas usage rate was 98.6%, the BOF gas usage rate was 98.6%, and the coke oven gas usage rate was 98.7%.

On the other hand, China's steel production increased by 0.6% compared to the previous year in 2023, reaching 1.019 billion tons.
