In September, China exported 10.15 million tons of steel products, an increase of 6.9% from August. In the January-September period of 2024, the country's total steel exports reached 80.71 million tons, an increase of 21.2% from the same period a year earlier.
On the import side, China imported 554,000 tons of steel products in September, an increase of 8.8% from the previous month. However, total steel imports in January-September 2024 amounted to 5.19 million tons, reflecting a 9%y-o-y decline.
This increase in the country's exports reinforces China's dominance in the global market, despite increased measures by other markets against Chinese steel. This shows that China is increasing its competitiveness and production capacity in the steel industry.
