The Chinese domestic economy was in a struggling state in 2022 due to coronavirus restrictions, and the market demand for aluminum remained insufficient all year round.
With the struggling economy and moderate energy prices, the production of aluminum smelters has reached record levels. Last year, Inner Mongolia, Yunnan and Guangxi increased their aluminum smelting capacities.
China's aluminum production increased to a new record high last year, according to a Chinese government report. In 2022, aluminum smelters in China reached a new record with 40.21 million tons, an increase of 4.5% compared to 2021.
