China reviews anti-dumping duties on Korean and EU stainless steel products

China announced that it has entered the process of re-evaluating anti-dumping duties on stainless steel products imported from Korea and the European Union (EU).

China reviews anti-dumping duties on Korean and EU stainless steel products

China's Ministry of Commerce stated that it has begun to review the update of these measures for stainless steel billets and hot-rolled steel sheets upon demand from the country's steel industry. The re-evaluation process is planned to be completed by July 23, 2025, and it has been reported that the current tariff rates will be maintained during this process.

It was stated that the continuation of anti-dumping measures for stainless steel products used in China's main production areas such as shipbuilding, containers and railways is for the purpose of industrial protection. It was emphasized that these measures would contribute to the development of Chinese steel companies in a fair competitive environment, and it was stated that low-priced imported stainless steel products harm Chinese producers.

However, the Korean steel industry is concerned that anti-dumping measures could disrupt the global steel trade order. Some industry representatives stated that these measures have the potential to create unfair competition in the global market under the name of protecting China's own steel industry. Additionally, regarding the expiration of existing anti-dumping measures on Japanese stainless steel products, the Korean steel industry has expressed concern that the protection of local companies has been violated.

These developments bring tensions in international trade relations and incompatibilities within the framework of WTO rules to the agenda once again. The authorities plan to actively act against such unfair trade measures.
