A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce stated that, in line with the decision made by the USA government, they have reintroduced steel and aluminum tariffs under Section 232, which are applied to global trade partners, and has further increased the tariffs on aluminum products.
Chinese officials emphasized that this decision by the USA is a typical example of a unilateral and protectionist approach. Many countries have openly opposed these steps and there is also significant opposition within the United States, the statement noted. The Chinese officials reminded that in 2022, the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled that the tariffs imposed by the USA under Section 232 violated WTO rules. Despite this ruling, it was pointed out that the USA not only maintained the existing tariffs but also increased tariffs on aluminum products, thereby harming international trade.
“Global Supply Chain Under Threat”

It will become clearer in the coming days how China will respond to the new USA. tariffs and how this will affect the global steel and aluminum markets.
