The Ministry of Commerce of China demanded the immediate cancellation of US tariffs on steel and aluminum products of this Asian country.
According to Reuters, China made this request in response to the report of the World Trade Organization's dispute resolution panel.
The panel announced that China has imposed more tariffs on certain imports from the United States, but the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that the root of this problem lies in the "unilateral and protective behavior of the United States of industries."
The ministry added: China's countermeasures are in accordance with the laws and are a legitimate step to protect the legitimate rights and interests of this country.
In 2018, the former US President Donald Trump's administration imposed a 25% tariff on some steel imports and a 10% tariff on some aluminum imports in accordance with Section 232 of the US Trade Development Act of 1962.
American officials have not implemented these percentages strictly, but have used other methods to reduce aluminum and steel imports.
Last year, the China Iron and Steel Association and the Association of Non-Ferrous Metal Industries of this country asked the United States to correct its mistakes and adopt a positive approach in international trade.
The unions praised the World Trade Organization for calling the US tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum products illegal.
