Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, who evaluated the maritime statistics for the January-June period prepared by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, stated that they continue to work without slowing down in order for Turkey to get more share from maritime trade.
Informing that the amount of cargo handled in ports in June 2024 was 43 million 703 thousand 341 tons, Uraloğlu stated that the total amount of cargo handled in ports in the January-June period was 269 million 182 thousand 694 tons. "In June, the amount of cargo going from our ports to foreign ports decreased by 2.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 11 million 266 thousand 49 tons," Minister Uraloğlu said.
Uraloğlu noted that the amount of cargo arriving to Turkey from foreign ports decreased by 5.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 20 million 920 thousand 316 tons, and that the amount of cargo transported abroad in June decreased by 4.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 32 million 186 thousand 365 tons.
Aliağa handled the most cargo
Uraloğlu shared that the highest cargo handling on the basis of regional port authorities in June was realized in the port facilities operating within the administrative boundaries of Aliağa Regional Port Authority with 7 million 208 thousand 517 tons of cargo and said, "Aliağa Regional Port Authority was followed by Kocaeli Regional Port Authority with 7 million 4 thousand 32 tons and İskenderun Regional Port Authority with 5 million 539 thousand 625 tons."
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the amount of transit cargo transported by sea at the ports in June was 5 million 933 thousand 804 tons and the amount of cargo transported in cabotage was 5 million 583 thousand 172 tons.
Soybeans ranked first in handling
On the basis of the types of cargo transported, the type of cargo that showed the highest increase in June compared to July was soybeans. Uraloğlu informed that 758 thousand 659 tons of soybeans were handled at the ports, followed by crude oil and unbriquetted hard coal. Minister Uraloğlu informed that portland cement was the most transported type of cargo carried by ships from our ports to go abroad with 739 thousand 238 tons in June, and stated that portland cement was followed by diesel and clinker cargo types and said, "Crude oil cargo type ranked first among the most transported cargoes on ships coming from abroad. Unbriquetted hard coal and diesel fuel cargo types are on the list after crude oil."
Most cargo to Italy
In June, the highest amount of cargo was transported to Italy in shipments made abroad by sea. Italy was followed by the USA and Spain. The highest amount of cargo coming to the ports by sea was from Russia. Uraloğlu said, "7.7% of the 32 million 186 thousand 365 tons of international cargo handled in our ports in June was carried by Turkish flagged vessels. The amount of international cargo carried by Turkish flag vessels decreased by 14.1% compared to the same month of the previous year with 2 million 493 thousand 685 tons. The amount of international cargo carried by foreign flagged vessels decreased by 3.6% with 29 million 692 thousand 680 tons."
Stating that the amount of containers handled at ports in June reached 1 million 137 thousand 388 TEU with an increase of 3.2% compared to the same month of the previous year, Minister Uraloğlu pointed out that the amount of containers handled at ports in the first half of the year increased by 11.2% to 6 million 781 thousand 483 TEU.
