Car sales in the EU fell sharply in October

Total sales in the European Union (EU) automobile market decreased by more than 30 percent in October compared to the same period last year.

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) announced the new automobile registration data of EU countries for October. The said sales amount was 953 thousand 603 units in October 2020.
Automobile sales in EU countries also fell sharply in July, August and September. Automobile sales among EU countries in October compared to the same period of the previous year were 35.7 percent in Italy, 34.9 percent in Germany, 30.7 percent in France and 30.7 percent in France. In Spain, it decreased by 20.5 percent. Among the 27 EU member countries, the highest number of new cars were put on the road in Germany in October. During this period, 178 thousand 683 new cars were registered in Germany, 118 thousand 519 in France, 101 thousand 15 in Italy and 59 thousand 44 in Spain.

New car registrations in the EU increased by 2.2 percent in January-October 2021 compared to the same period last year, reaching 8 million 191 thousand 709. According to the manufacturers, the highest number of new car sales in the EU in October was 147 thousand 808. Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel. Stellantis was followed by Volkswagen Group with 134 thousand 103, Renault Group with 76 thousand 705 and Hyundai Group with 70 thousand 984.
