Canon has announced that they will be using recycled steel in their products

Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA) announced that in line with their sustainability goals, they will start using recycled steel in some of its printing products by 2025. This new material will be used in office multifunction printers, home inkjet printers, large format inkjet printers and commercial printing machines. The company aims to expand their range of products using recycled steel in the coming years.

To optimize this process, the company is collaborating with its group company, Canon Ecology Industry Co., Ltd. Steel scrap separated from used office printers is sold to Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Japan for recycling. Between 2020 and 2024, Canon supplied more than 5,000 tons of scrap steel to Tokyo Steel. The company aims to develop more sustainable products using recycled steel and utilize resources more efficiently.

Canon has set a recycling rate target of 20% for 2025 and 50% for 2030 in the printing business. This rate was 16% in 2022 and increased to 17% in 2023. Additionally, in line with their goal of reducing carbon emissions, the company has achieved an average annual improvement of 3.95% in product life cycle emissions since 2008. The company continues their efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
