British steel has reduced CO2 emissions by more than 75% in its electrical steelmaking process, but continues to work to find ways to reduce CO2 emissions from many parts of its production processes. One of these projects is a trial of a new technology to conserve carbon emissions.
To develop this technology work, a mobile carbon capture pilot plant, developed by the University of Sheffield, has been installed at British Steel's Central Power Station in Scunthorpe.
Developing technology, now being implemented, is part of a University of Sheffield project to convert waste gases from manufacturing industries into alternative carbon sources. CO2 captured at British Steel will be contained in tubes and converted into synthetic transport fuels by the University of Sheffield.
