Brazil's pig iron exports rise sharply in September

Brazil's pig iron exports reached 380,000 tons in September, a significant increase from the 270,100 tons exported in August. The United States accounted for the majority of these exports, importing 345,200 tons at an average price of $440 per ton. Other buyers included Mexico, which purchased 25,000 tons at $446 per ton, along with smaller shipments to Asia, the Netherlands, and South America.

The bulk of Brazil's pig iron supply in September came from independent producers in the southeastern states of Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo, which collectively exported 304,100 tons. Additional supplies were sourced from Pará in the north (47,000 tons) and Mato Grosso do Sul in the central-west (28,900 tons), with prices ranging between $441 and $450 per ton depending on the region of origin.

These shipments were likely agreed upon earlier in July when pig iron prices were between $430 and $480 per ton, with foundry iron exceeding $500 per ton.
