Brazil's crude steel production rises in September

Brazil’s crude steel production reached 2,842 million tonnes in September, marking a 9,9% increase from the same month in 2023, according to the Brazilian Steel Institute.

Production of rolled steel products rose by 10,9% to 2,033 million tonnes, with flat products increasing by 3,3% to 1,154 million tonnes and long products surging by 23% to 879,000 tonnes.

Domestic sales of steel products in September grew by 14% to 1,890 million tonnes, while apparent consumption rose by 9,1% to 2,376 million tonnes. Exports fell by 15,5% to 704,000 tonnes, and imports climbed by 19,8% to 658,000 tonnes.

In the first nine months of 2024, crude steel production increased by 4,4% year-on-year to 25,205 million tonnes. Domestic sales rose by 7,4% to 15,890 million tonnes, exports declined by 13,1% to 7,669 million tonnes, and imports increased by 24% to 4,631 million tonnes. Apparent consumption of steel products during this period rose by 8,4% to 19,556 million tonnes.
