According to the statistics, crude steel production in the country in May this year was about 2.8 million tonnes, down 5.5% from the same month a year earlier.
Local steel sales, on the other hand, decreased by 6.9% y-o-y to 1.7 million tonnes. Apparent steel consumption decreased by 3% to around 2 million tonnes in the same period.
In the first five months of this year, local steel sales and apparent steel consumption were 8.1 million tonnes and 9.6 million tonnes, respectively. These figures were 4.6% and 1.3% lower y-o-y, respectively.
