Borçelik, a Turkish steel producer and a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Borusan Holding, has chosen Danieli technology for its new cold rolling mill complex to be built in Gemlik, Bursa, Türkiye. This strategic partnership marks a significant step towards producing high-quality cold strip for various sectors, particularly the automotive industry.
The new facility will process hot-rolled coils through pickling, cold rolling, annealing, and galvanizing processes, transforming them into cold strip suitable for automotive applications, ranging in thickness from 0.3 to 3.00 mm. This new facility will commence operations with an annual production capacity of 1.6 million tons, with plans to expand to 2 million tons in the future.
Danieli's advanced technologies stand out for their high efficiency, quality control, and environmental sustainability. The patented Turboflo® technology implemented in the new pickling line ensures high-efficiency descaling and exceptional surface smoothness. The four-stand tandem cold mill, equipped with Danieli's proprietary 6-Hi Optimized Shaped Roll Technology (OSRT), guarantees optimal strip flatness and thickness control.
Borçelik's new facility will be equipped with Danieli's advanced automation systems. These systems will ensure automatic management of operations, guaranteeing quality and production consistency.
The new cold rolling mill complex is slated to become operational with the commissioning of the galvanizing line (CGAL) in August 2026 and the pickling and cold rolling facility (PLTCM) in October 2026. The Danieli PLCTM facility has been recognized as a reliable and valuable technology in the industry, having secured a majority of new PLCTM orders in recent years.
This partnership will contribute significantly to Borçelik's growth strategies and solidify Türkiye's position as a global player in the steel sector.
