Turkey's billet imports totaled about 310,000 tons in May, down 27.3% from the previous month and up 22.4% from the same month last year. The import value was $198 million, down 25% month-on-month and down 1.5% year-over-year.
In the first 5 months of this year, Turkey imported a total of about 1.7 million tons of billets, which is 97.4% more than in the corresponding period a year earlier. The value of these imports amounted to $1.01 billion, up 57% year-on-year.
Imports from Russia grew by 51.8% year on year to almost 50,000 tons.
Imports from Algeria amounted to approximately 347,200 tons.
