BHP and JX Metals signed a memorandum of understanding for a “Green Enabling Partnership” aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the copper supply chain. It was stated that this partnership also supports sustainability.
The objectives of the partnership include reducing the carbon footprint of electrolytic copper, making energy-efficient smelting, and improving knowledge sharing.
Kazuhiro Hori, deputy general manager of JX Metals, explained that this partnership with BHP is vital to JX Metals and they will step up their ESG efforts in the manufacturing sectors.
Vandita Pant, BHP’s chief commercial officer, also stated that she is proud to have implemented innovative sustainability at BHP and is looking forward to working with JX Metals.
In addition, Pan Pacific Copper, a member of JX Metals, has partnered with Norsepower, a wind equipment manufacturer for BHP, to reduce carbon emissions from sulphuric acid in 2022.
