Bangladeshi BMSIL to build first plant producing wire rod and rebar

BMSIL, one of Bangladesh's leading industrial groups, is making a giant investment that will increase the country's steel production.

Bangladeshi BMSIL to build first plant producing wire rod and rebar

Bashundhara Multi Steel Industries Limited (BMSIL) is building the world's largest single-line mini-mill in Mirsarai National Special Economic Zone in Chattogram. According to company officials, the plant is expected to be operational by mid-2026.

BMSIL is on its way to becoming the first company in Bangladesh to produce rebar and wire rod. The products will utilize environmentally friendly modern technology, which will reduce the cost per bar by around BDT 3,000 (approximately USD 24.69) compared to traditional methods. In addition, quality and consistent production will be ensured, ultimately benefiting buyers.

BMSIL Project Head Muhammad Mazedul Islam recently announced that the plant will have an annual production capacity of 1.25 million tons and that more than half of the plant's development has been completed. “Wire rod production will be an alternative to imports and will save our country around USD 250 million (BDT 3,000 crore) in foreign exchange,” Islam stated.
