According to the records of Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association and the Turkish Exporters Assembly, the sector sold products to more than 190 countries, autonomous and free zones between January and June.
Exports of the automotive industry increased by 14 percent in the first half compared to the same period of 2022, from 15 billion 250 million 785 thousand dollars to 17 billion 337 million 288 thousand dollars.
The sector received 16.1 percent share from Turkey's total exports of 123 billion 376 million 635 thousand dollars in the 6-month period.
EU region ranked first
The EU region ranked first in Turkey's automotive exports with a share of 69.2 percent in the January-June period of this year.
Exports to EU countries increased by 20 percent in this period compared to the same period of the previous year, from 9 billion 986 million 402 thousand dollars to 11 billion 988 million 673 thousand dollars. EU countries maintained their position as the most important market in automotive exports.
Big increase for France
Looking at the countries with the highest exports in the January - June period, Germany, the main market of the Turkish automotive industry, was the country with the highest number of automotive exports with an increase of approximately 10 percent compared to the same period last year.
The amount of automotive exports from Turkey to Germany, which was recorded as 2 billion 210 million 529 thousand dollars in the first 6 months of last year, increased to 2 billion 436 million 353 thousand dollars in the same period of this year.
Exports to France, the EU country with the highest exports after Germany, increased by 44 per cent. Automotive exports to France, which was 1 billion 527 million 321 thousand dollars in 6 months last year, reached 2 billion 192 million 198 thousand dollars in the first half of this year.
In January-June 2023, 1 billion 527 million 211 thousand dollars of automotive exports were made to Italy, 1 billion 277 million 434 thousand dollars to Spain, 831 million 668 thousand dollars to Poland, 741 million 683 thousand dollars to Slovenia and 665 million 460 thousand dollars to Belgium.
EU countries constituted 7 of the top 10 countries with the highest exports.
