Austria's crude steel production in May 2024 increased by 2.7% compared to the previous month, but experienced a decline on a yearly basis.
According to data from the World Steel Association,crude steel production in Austria in May increased by 2.7% compared to April, reaching 650,000 tons.
However, this figure marked a 3% decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. Austria ranked 21st among global steel producers.
In the first five months of 2024, Austria produced 3.18 million tons of steel, marking a 1% increase year-on-year. During the same period, overall EU steel production increased by 0.6% year-on-year to 11.6 million tons. However, in the first five months of the year, steel production decreased by 0.1% compared to the January-May period of 2023, amounting to 56.1 million tons.
