Austrian steelmakers increased their crude steel production by 13.4% to 680,408 tonnes in March compared to the previous month.
Austria increased by 0.7% yoy in the January-February 2024 period, with 1.89 million tonnes of steel produced. According to SteelRadar data, Austrian steel producers, which increased by 13.4% in March compared to February, reached 680,408 tonnes and ranked 21st in the global steel producer ranking.
EU-wide crude steel production declined by 13.4% annually with 11.6 million tonnes of steel produced. As previously reported by SteelRadar, Italy, which is located in Southern Europe, produced 1.91 million tonnes of steel in March, down 12.6% compared to the same period a year earlier, unlike Austria.
Additionally, Voestalpine, one of the largest steel producers in Austria, started production of the world's first hydrogen-reduced high quality "greentec" wire rod at its Donawitz plant. Sources are expecting this will directly affect the steel production in region for further period.
