Australia is again the iron ore champion in the global market in 2022

Australia remained on top

According to data released by official sources; Australia ranked 1st again in 2022, producing 880 thousand tons of iron ore in 2022 as in 2021.

After Australia, Brazil, China, India, Russia and India are the top 5 countries in iron ore production.

Brazil increased by 2.7% and China by 42% in 2022 compared to 2021

Compared to 2021, China increased its iron ore production from 266,000 tons to 380,000 tons in 2022 and Brazil increased from 399,300 tons to 410,000 tons.

Brazil's iron ore production in 2021 was so high that, despite China's large increase in 2022, Brazil did not lose the second place to China.

According to the forecasts, China's 2nd place was interpreted as easier than India's 3rd place.

India could have replaced China if it had achieved twice the 16.3% increase in 2022 compared to the previous year.

However, India ranked 4th in iron ore production in 2022, increasing from 249,300 tons to 290,000 tons compared to 2021. China maintained its place.

Russia produced 90 thousand tons of iron ore in 2022

Russia completed its 2022 iron ore production at 90 thousand tons. Ukraine and South Africa followed in 6th and 7th place, producing 76 thousand tons of iron ore.

South Africa's 4% increase in 2022 compared to 2021 exceeded Iran's iron ore production

Iran's iron ore production rose to 75 thousand tons, approaching South Africa and Ukraine.

Kazakhstan, Canada and the US ranked in the top 15 in iron ore production

Kazakhstan produced 66 thousand tons of iron ore in 2022. Canada produced 58,000 tons in 2022, up by only 1% from 57,500 tons in 2021.

US iron ore production in 2022 decreased by 5.5% compared to 2021

With a production of 48,700 tons in 2021, the US could have replaced Canada in 2022 with a 19% increase rather than a decrease.

Iron ore production increased by 35% in Sweden

Sweden increased its iron ore production from 28,900 tons to 39,000 tons in 2022 compared to 2021.

Turkey entered the top 15 with iron ore production in 2022

Turkey's production increase of 104% in 2022 compared to 2021 increased iron ore production from 8,300 tons to 17,000 tons. Turkey managed to reach the top 15 in 2022, ranking 13th.

Peru was also among the countries with a high increase in 2022

In 2022, Peru's iron ore production increased by 59% compared to 2021, from 10,700 tons to 17,000 tons.

In Chile and Mauritania, iron ore production in 2022 was 16 thousand and 13 thousand tons, respectively.

Mexico was ahead of Sweden's iron ore production in 2021, what happened in 2022?

Mexico's iron ore production decreased by 63% in 2022 compared to 2021, from 29,700 tons to 11,000 tons.
