Assofermet stated that the European Commission has launched two important anti-dumping investigations related to the steel sector. The first is AD705, launched on May 16, 2024, which investigates dumping practices by Chinese companies on flat-rolled products, iron or non-alloy, tin-plated steel products. The other is AD715, launched on August 8, 2024; involving Egyptian, Indian, Japanese and Vietnamese companies. This investigation involves hot-rolled flat products, alloy and non-alloy steel. It is reported that because of these investigations, the European Commission can impose duties necessary to stabilize the effects on the market.
Assofermet launched a new platform to quickly and accurately calculate the timing of duties that may be implemented as part of the investigations of the European Commission. The Italian Steel Trade Association reported that the platform can be used for both ongoing and future investigations.
The Italian Steel Trade Association reported that the system works with the investigation start date and, for example, the Tinplate investigation started on May 16, 2024 and the flat steel investigation began on August 8, 2024. It was announced that the platform is only accessible to Assofermet member companies.
