In the northwest region, Bekaert Corporation is expanding its Van Buren facility, promising the creation of 38 new jobs. The company, a leader in steel wire transformation and coating technologies, has been an integral part of the Van Buren community since 1970. The expansion, announced on May 1, involves an investment in new manufacturing equipment aimed at supporting the electrical grid and telecommunications industries. "Bekaert is thankful for the recognition and support of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission and many other leaders to invest in the Van Buren community," said Bryan Sullivan, Vice President of steel wire solutions for Bekaert.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, noting, "Arkansas’ strong workforce, low taxes, and pro-business environment is spurring growth across our state. As Governor, I’m committed to enacting more policies that help great companies like Bekaert continue to thrive."
Meanwhile, Zekelman Industries has announced a $120 million investment to expand the manufacturing capabilities and product offerings of its Atlas Tube subsidiary in Mississippi County. This investment will bolster Zekelman's workforce to over 300 employees in northeastern Arkansas and involve the manufacture of inline steel tube galvanizing products—a range not currently available in North America.
Additionally, Zekelman has partnered with Arkansas Northeastern College on a new workforce training initiative, aiming to prepare students for careers in the thriving steel industry. Tom Muth, Chief Operating Officer of Zekelman, highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative, stating, "Our goal at Zekelman is to prepare, nurture, and inspire students entering the thriving and well-paying steel industry."
