ArcelorMittal informed its customers this week that there may be delays in deliveries in Europe due to recent fires in blast furnaces in northern Spain and France.
The company said in a statement to its customers that existing order book execution delays are likely to occur and allocations for new orders may also be reduced.
Two blast furnaces, one in Gijon and the other in Dunkirk, are currently closed following the crashes on 22 March and 30 March. The company is assessing the damage and the time needed for repairs, and it looks like it will take several weeks to return to standard production levels.
Arcelormittal's Flat Carbon Europe unit sent the statement, and the accidents mainly affected furnaces that produce pig iron for the production of plate and flat steel.
