ArcelorMittal Luxembourg's sustainability initiatives

ArcelorMittal Luxembourg renewed the ResponsibleSteel Certification, confirming the company's commitment to sustainable steel production.

ArcelorMittal Luxembourg's sustainability initiatives

The assessments made at the Belval, Differdange and Rodange sites demonstrated company efforts to optimize its environmental performance and increase recycling rates. Audits took place according to the new International Standard 2.1, which ResponsibleSteel introduced earlier this year, confirming that the company met the revised progress level requirements.

The audit highlighted the main focus areas for ArcelorMittal Luxembourg. Among the most significant is the long products division's sustainability strategy, which aims to recycle all byproducts by 2030. The goal demonstrates a significant change in the company's approach to waste management.

The company has taken a more inclusive approach beyond the recycling target, to reducing environmental footprint. A total of 13 projects focus on reducing environmental noise and vibration, recycling waste and by byproducts efficiently, and managing the waste lifecycle in a more transparent and traceable way. The projects include technological improvements, process optimizations and workflow improvements for a more environmentally friendly production process.

The report, resulting from the ResponsibleSteel audit, clearly highlights the company's areas for improvement. ArcelorMittal Luxembourg intends to use this report as a roadmap to make strategic investments and to implement organizational changes to achieve its sustainability goals. Extending beyond ResponsibleSteel certification, the company's inclusive approach reflects a wider vision of sustainability and sets an example for other companies in the industry.
