It is stated that ArcelorMittal intends to strengthen the ladle furnace unit in April-May and its activities will include heating the steel to the right temperature to prevent the cooling that will occur with recycled steel.
The facility will reportedly include an 85-ton transformer, three electrodes, six electrical rooms, a 300-meter conveyor belt and a control room. It is also stated that the construction of the unit is ongoing, while it is said that the ladle furnace, which is expected to be operational, will reduce the carbon footprint by 10%. The Fos facility currently has two blast furnaces, while the new electric arc furnace will be operational in 2027, replacing one blast furnace within a decade.
Total investment in the Fos-sur-Mer plant is reported to be €76 million, with the French state among the financiers.
