ArcelorMittal closes coke oven at Zenica plant

ArcelorMittal closed the coke oven at its Zenica plant in Bosnia-Herzegovina on 26 April due to rising production costs.

ArcelorMittal closes coke oven at Zenica plant

Zenica, which has a BF furnace with an annual capacity of 1.10 million tonnes and a basic oxygen furnace with a capacity of 1.14 million tonnes and produces rebar and wire rod at an annual rate of 800,000 tonnes, is one of the largest long steel producers in the Balkans. ArcelorMittal Zenica announced the gradual closure of its coke plant from 25 April due to rising production costs in many areas such as energy resources and logistics, as well as falling demand for steel in Europe. As previously reported by SteelRadar, ArcelorMittal, which announced its annual review, talked about its financial problems and energy consumption. The company, which wants to focus more on low-carbon steel production, has changed its roadmap. It is estimated that total emissions will fall to the lowest level since the company's coking plant in Zenica began operations.

However, the coke oven in Zenica was closed due to the decline in demand from many steel sectors, including the construction sector. Zenica has announced that it will continue to process coke purchased from various companies through BF and use it in the production of long steel.
