The Arab steel industry is taking significant steps toward achieving sustainability and carbon neutrality goals. In the World Steel Association's 2023 sustainability report, companies like ElMarakby Steel, EMSteel, and EZZ Steel stand out, with 99% of Arab steel production utilizing environmentally friendly technologies. EMSteel's project to produce "Green Steel" using green hydrogen has also achieved major success.
The steel industry plays a crucial role in reducing environmental pollution and transitioning to sustainable production processes. International platforms like the United Nations and the Paris Agreement have made significant decisions to reduce the carbon footprint of the steel sector, and Arab steel producers are taking steps to align with these goals.
According to the World Steel Association's report published in November 2024, companies such as ElMarakby Steel from Egypt, EMSteel from the UAE, and EZZ Steel from Egypt are among the leaders in sustainability. The Arab Iron and Steel Union highlights that 99% of steel production in the region is carried out using environmentally friendly technologies, accelerating efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the sector.
Additionally, EMSteel has made significant progress by using 84% clean electricity and, in partnership with the Masdar Group, launched a successful pilot project to produce "Green Steel" using green hydrogen. With these steps, the Arab steel sector has made considerable progress in reaching global sustainability goals.
