Marked the inaugural session of the Technical Committee of the Arab Iron and Steel Union at the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. The committee, comprising 14 members from different Arab countries, convened for a procedural meeting to approve its internal law. Dr. Othman Al-Malaki from Saudi Arabia was elected as the Chairman, with Eng. Mohamed Fouad Imam from Egypt as the Vice Chairman. The committee outlined a time plan for its activities throughout 2023/2024. The diverse representation includes industry leaders from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, Qatar, Mauritania, Algeria, UAE, Bahrain, Syria, Libya, Tunisia, Jordan, Iraq, and Kuwait. The committee's formation signifies a collaborative effort to address technical aspects and enhance cooperation within the Arab iron and steel industry.
During the 127th meeting of the Arab Iron and Steel Union's Board of Directors held on October 29th, Mr. Awad Al-Khalidi, the Board's Chairman, commended the success of the 16th Arab Steel Summit Conference. He expressed gratitude to the Minister of Trade and Industry of Egypt for sponsoring the event.
Dr. Kamel Djoudi, the Union's Secretary-General, presented the estimated budget for 2024 and reviewed the Union's activities in 2023, encompassing various meetings, conferences, committees, and training sessions. Mr. George Matta, Head of the Marketing Sector at Ezz Steel, discussed economic conditions and steel consumption rates in Arab countries. Dr. Othman Al-Malaki, Chairman of the Technical Committee, highlighted key decisions from the committee's first meeting, including his election as Chairman and Engineer Mohamed Fouad Emam as Vice-Chairman. The Board adopted several decisions, including approving the 2024 budget, welcoming the return of the General Organization for Engineering Industries from Syria to the Board, and scheduling the next Board of Directors meeting after the 129th Summit in Doha, Qatar, alongside the 17th Arab Steel Summit in October 2024.
