Another world record from Tosyalı

Operating in Algeria under the umbrella of Tosyalı Holding, Tosyalı Algerie broke another world record in 2021 by producing more than 2.285 million tons per year with a single directly reduced iron (DRI) module. The old world record was also broken by Tosyalı Algerie in 2020.

Another world record from Tosyalı

Tosyalı Holding continues to break world records with its sustainability-oriented production approach that creates added value. Tosyalı broke the second consecutive world record at the Tosyalı Algerie facility, where it commissioned the world's largest DRI module using Midrex technology in 2019. While Tosyalı Algerie broke a new world record by producing more than 2.285 million tons per year with a single directly reduced iron (DRI) module in 2021, it exceeded the production figure it reached by breaking the world record again in 2020.

Tosyalı Holding CEO Dr. Suhat Korkmaz: “This record is proof of our operational excellence.”

Stating that their basic priorities are operational sustainability and full compliance with environmental, social and governance principles, Tosyalı Holding CEO Dr. Suhat Korkmaz said, “The world production record we broke at the Tosyalı Algerie DRI Facility for the second year in a row is a proof of our operational excellence. We are proud to be a part of this success story as a team with our nearly 3000 employees in Algeria. This record also put Algeria in a very successful position in the world DRI industry.”

The new facility will be one of the best in the world with a lower carbon footprint
Stating that they started the final phase of the investment in Tosyalı Algeria, which includes the construction of a new DRI facility with the highest technology, in the last quarter of 2021, Tosyalı Holding CEO Dr. Suhat Korkmaz; “This new facility will be one of the best practices in the world steel industry in this area with a lower carbon footprint. This new investment in Algeria is of great importance not only because of the additional capacity of 2.5 million tons, but also with its positive environmental impacts. Tosyalı Algeria currently produces steel with a low carbon footprint using the world's most advanced DRI technology, and with this new technology transfer to Algeria, we will be even more competitive in terms of environmental impact.”

Expressing his thoughts on the new world record, Midrex Technologies, Inc.'s President and CEO Stephen C. Montague said; “We congratulate Tosyalı Algérie's management and staff for their excellence in plant operation. Breaking the DRI production record for the second time is a real proof of Tosyalı Holding's skill and know-how. Stating that they are very pleased to work with Tosyalı at a second DRI facility, Stephen C. Montague said, “Direct reduction is the best technology for reducing the carbon footprint of the steel industry and this facility is designed to use even more hydrogen when it is operational in the future.”

MIDREX Facilities produce high quality DRI products (cold DRI, CDRI; hot DRI, HDRI and hot briquetted iron, HBI) from iron ore using the most environmentally friendly technology, the natural gas-based MIDREX Direct Reduction Process (MIDREX NG™). MIDREX NG provides greater raw material flexibility by allowing the use of DRI grade pellets, blast furnace grade pellets and lump ores. Compared to blast furnace iron production, a standard MIDREX NG plant can reduce CO2 emissions by more than 50% and has the flexibility to be converted from 100% natural gas to 100% hydrogen as a reducing agent. Using 100% hydrogen, MIDREX H2™ offers a completely suitable technology for green factories and plants.
