Alstom signs contract with Saudi Arabian Railways

Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR) has signed an agreement with French company Alstom Transport SA to increase the readiness of the Al Sharq rail network train fleet.

Alstom signs contract with Saudi Arabian Railways

Announced at the Saudi Arabian Railway Exhibition and Conference in Riyadh, the collaboration aims to train and qualify SAR employees, develop national cadres and take advantage of modern learning and development techniques in the industry, while encouraging employees to acquire new skills by learning from the experience of international railway companies.

The Al Sharq railway line, also known as the “Orient Train” network, stretches 1,775 kilometers from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam on Saudi Arabia's east coast to the capital Riyadh. This extensive network is home to a powerful fleet of 102 diesel locomotives, 75 passenger cars and 2,596 freight cars.

The agreement offers significant opportunities, especially for the iron and steel sector. The modernization of the Al Sharq network is expected to increase demand for steel products used in railway infrastructure and fleets, creating new supply opportunities for local producers. Alstom's advanced technologies are expected to stimulate the development of lightweight and durable steel alloys, optimizing the logistics processes of the expanding rail network and providing cost advantages for the industry.
