In Algiers, three significant agreements were recently signed, marking a strategic collaboration between Algerian national companies and international partners in the mining sector. The signing ceremony took place during the commemoration of the 58th anniversary of the nationalization of mines and the 57th anniversary of the founding of the National Company for Research and Mining Exploitation (SONARAM).
In a momentous accord, the National Iron and Steel Corporation "Feral" (Sonaram Complex branch) joined forces with the prestigious Chinese company "Sinosteel" to embark on the construction of the first iron ore pre-treatment unit at the Gara Jbeilat mine. This pioneering endeavor is slated to boast a capacity of approximately 4 million tons, heralding a significant leap forward in Algeria's iron ore processing capabilities.
Further underlining Algeria's commitment to mining advancement, a collaborative effort between the Turkish "Tosyali" Corporation and "Feral" aims to establish a cutting-edge unit for iron ore concentrates production in the Tomiyat region. With an anticipated annual production capacity of 1 million tons, this initiative promises to bolster Algeria's standing in the global iron ore market.
In yet another groundbreaking partnership, the Algerian-Australian mixed company "West Mediterranean Zinc" (WMA) joined hands with Chinese powerhouse "Sinosteel" to spearhead the completion of an underground mine for lead and zinc deposits. Set to yield approximately 170 thousand tons of zinc and 30 thousand tons of lead annually, this venture underscores Algeria's determination to harness its mineral wealth for sustainable economic growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President and General Director of the Mining Industrial Complex "SONARIM" underscored the significance of these agreements in Algeria's quest to fortify its position in the global mining arena. Highlighting forthcoming projects including the barite mine in Beni Abbas and the manganese mine in Béchar, he articulated a vision of prosperity and progress, projecting substantial contributions to Algeria's economic trajectory by 2030.
As Algeria embarks on this transformative journey of collaboration and innovation, is set for a new chapter of prosperity, driven by strategic partnerships and a shared commitment to harnessing the nation's abundant mineral resources for the collective benefit of its people.
