Alcoa, the world's third largest aluminum producer, has made a significant investment of R$ 1.3 billion over a two-year period. The investment is aimed at replacing the use of fossil fuels at the Poços de Caldas plant in Minas Gerais and the Maranhão Aluminum Consortium (Alumar), a joint venture between Alcoa Corporation, Rio Tinto and South32, with the primary goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
With the restart of the smelter in April 2022, Alumar reached a significant milestone by producing 100% clean and renewable output.
