Alcoa Corp., a prominent US-based aluminum producer, anticipates that the shipment of aluminum will range from 2.5 to 2.6 million tons in 2023. This projection aligns with the shipment levels observed in 2022, as the impact of reduced trading volume offsets the additional shipments from the reopened Alumar smelter in Brazil and the Portland smelter in Australia.
Regarding alumina, Alcoa foresees a total alumina shipment of 12.7 to 12.9 million tons in 2023, which includes externally sourced alumina. This estimate reflects a decrease of 500,000 tons compared to the 2022 level. The decline is attributed to a partial reduction in production at the San Ciprián alumina plant and lower bauxite quality at the refineries in Australia.
