Raed Al-Ajaji, President of the Saudi International Conference on Iron and Steel, was among the speakers at the conference held in Riyadh between 12-14 September.
At the meeting, scientific and practical suggestions that could advance the future of the iron and steel industry and increase its role in economic and industrial development in developed and developing countries were reached.
Al-Ajaji underlined the conference's support for the national iron industry as part of the Saudi Vision 2030.
Al-Ajaji noted that the conference sheds light on the capabilities of the iron industry in Saudi Arabia. He stated that they plan to be the main player in steel production at the international level as a part of the giant projects under development. Describing the projects as the largest construction projects in history, Al-Ajaji said, “These projects, which constitute a historic opportunity for local and international iron producers, will require large amounts of iron. There will be great opportunities for iron producers," he said.
The conference also highlighted Saudi Arabia's efforts regarding the environment and the iron industry in reducing carbon emissions and using green hydrogen.
As for the global iron industry, Al-Ajaji said that at the conference he discussed the challenges associated with supply chains and the rise in energy and raw material prices, geopolitical conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic and their impact on global iron production and global iron production. He urged manufacturing companies to adopt environmentally friendly manufacturing technologies to limit their carbon emissions.
