It is among the sectors where AKİB reached the highest values in May. Stating that the low growth in the global economy made recovery difficult, President Kılıçer said, "The low exchange rate despite the high increase in costs damaged the competitiveness of our exporters. On the other hand, Turkish exporters started to face visa problems while trying to focus on fairs, trade delegation organizations and customer visits abroad in order to revive their trade relations, which were necessarily interrupted during the pandemic period. We are experiencing serious losses in some markets that we were able to enter with great efforts. However, we believe that we can quickly overcome the current problems with the new economic management."
According to the Unions affiliated to AKİB's May exports, the Mediterranean Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association ranks second with a value of 278 million dollars.
President R. Onur Kılıçer added that AKİB reached an export value of 5.96 billion dollars in the January-May period of 2023, while the exports of the region for the last 12 months amounted to 16.94 billion dollars.
